Beautiful Voice, a speech therapy startup developing tools for speech therapists and patients, has announced the appointment of Sheffield-based stroke survivor and disability advocate Dr Kate Allatt as their new ambassador and patient advocate.

Dr Kate Allatt, founder of global charity Fighting Strokes, TEDx speaker and author of the acclaimed Running Free: Breaking Out From Locked-In Syndrome, recovered from the rare condition, Locked In Syndrome, after suffering a brainstem stroke at the age of 39. Since her recovery, she has dedicated her life to education and positive impact in stroke rehabilitation.

‘I’m thrilled to join the Beautiful Voice team as an ambassador and patient advocate,’ Dr Kate Allatt said. ‘My passion has always been to raise stroke awareness and advocate for stroke survivors to get the care and support they need. Beautiful Voice helps people struggling with speech issues to get their words out through fun training at home and progressive feedback. I have chosen to work with them because I believe this technology will provide enormous benefits to stroke survivors, help reduce confusion, frustration and loneliness in their daily lives, and increase their confidence, inclusivity and wellbeing.’

Beautiful Voice is a team of entrepreneurs, engineers and speech therapists who have developed a unique digital health platform to transform how speech therapy is delivered and benefit millions of people who have experienced a stroke and speech difficulties.

Dr Allatt will be working with the team as a co-design lead with a focus on raising awareness of the Beautiful Voice platform, which has been designed to enrich home users’ training exercises with personal interests and interactive biofeedback. The platform has been designed to make daily practice more enjoyable for speech therapy patients whilst also empowering speech and language therapists with all the time-saving tools they need, from performing assessment to delivering treatment services.

‘I’m very proud to welcome Dr Kate Allatt to the team,’ said Andre Hallack, the founder of Beautiful Voice. ‘As we roll out the Beautiful Voice app to hospitals and therapy providers in Sheffield and across the UK, it’s incredibly important that we keep our focus on supporting patients and putting patient advocacy at the centre of everything we do. Dr Allatt understands this better than anyone, and I’m confident that she will be a fantastic addition.’

Beautiful Voice is currently on the P4 SY Accelerator Programme, supporting up to 30 companies in the South Yorkshire region to focus on bringing breakthrough health and medtech products to market. The six month programme will help these companies achieve key milestones in their development, with the goal of securing outside investment and building lasting partnerships within the region.
