We want to make sure every business in the borough has the access to the latest equipment to test ideas, refine existing products, and find new routes to market, and that’s where the MakerLab and CreatorLab play their part. Based at the DMC, these two facilities have a range of equipment and tools designed to support businesses innovate and try new things. We need a technician to work in these two spaces and really lead them.
We’ll need the successful candidate to be able to : - • Be self-taught about new equipment that comes into the lab on how to use and maintain it. • Lead on the rollout of new equipment and help decide what we need to get next. • Work with people of different skill levels to make sure they get the most out of their time in the Labs. • Create training session to help groups of people improve their knowledge at once, both in person and online. • Be actively involved with any wider support programme which uses the Labs. • Lead the create ion of a community around the labs. • Help businesses and individuals solve the problems using the Labs. • Be part of the DMC team.
The right person will need to be personable and welcoming. Forming part of the DMC team, they will need to have a ‘can do’ attitude and find ways to solve problems. They must also be flexible with hours as there are some evening and weekend work needed, although only as business needs requires it.
We’re looking for someone with a level 2 in English, Maths, and Science, along with a Level 3 in a related field (Design, Media, etc). You’ll need to have experience of working in Maker Spaces or labs, as well as instructing others in the use of equipment normally found in them, such as 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, and electronics. Ideally, you will have experience working with businesses to help them solve problems though use of technology, presenting information visually and verbally, and have worked with schools to deliver training.
You’ll be required to have an enhanced DBS check. If you live overseas or have lived overseas in the last five years, if you are the preferred candidate for the post, you will be required to apply for an overseas criminal records check from the country you have live in.
